New York: D. Appleton & Co, 1854. Hardcover. Very Good -. iv, [3], 10-239 p.; 18 cm. Original brown cloth with gilt-stamped spine title; blind-stamped decoration on both boards. Front free endpaper inscribed: "Madam Noyes with the respects of LH Sigourney Christmas 1854." A delightful look at those, like the author, in the P.M. of their life, this first edition appearing when popular American author Lydia Sigourney (1791-1865) was in her 60s. Inscribed by the author in the year of its publication; it is not known which Madam Noyes was the recipient of this volume. BAL 17903, binding A. In Very Good- Condition: cloth is somewhat faded and lightly stained; gilt spine title faded; ends of spine starting to fray; light foxing on a few pages; otherwise pages are clean and tight.

Pp.207, inscribed (in Spanish) by the author to front free endpaper with full name 'Henry Lyon Young'. Grey cloth, dustwrapper (not price-clipped) has 1cm loss to top of spine + further small edge losses and closed tear to spine and has a removable clear protective wrap. Scarce. VG/G+.

Very good, despite damp splash to top edge at spine, that has caused a little wrinkling to top margins. This is quite unobtrusive, and does not reach the text. Jacket has a little peripheral fading, and is a bit stained at top edge from aforementioned splash. Still apresentable copy. Inscribed to Jim, on the title page..
