Miscellaneous Works in Verse and Prose of the Late Right Honourable Joseph Addison, Esq; With some Account of the Life and Writing of the Author, by Mr. Tickell. Three Volumes. Original 1736 edition newly rebound in handsome brown full-leather. Occasional light foxing and browing of page edges. The volumes contain plays, essays, poems and dialogues. Vol. III has 235 pages devoted to "Dialogues Upon the Usefulness of Ancient Medals, Especially in Relation to the Latin and Greek Poets." Many illustrations of the medals are included. Addison was born in England, educated at Oxford, and then he entered politics. He married the Dowager Countess of Warwick in 1716, died in 1719, and was buried in Westminster Abbey. Very Good interior in Fine outer binding.

This is a complete, uniform, set of the 25 volume Author's National Edition. However, all the volumes are not first editions from the 1899 publication by Harper and Brothers. Thirteen of volumes are from the 1899 first edition publication. The remaining twelve volumes span the years 1901 - 1909. Condition of each book varies from Good to Very Good+. Pages on all the volumes are clear, without marks and overall without foxing (with only a few exceptions which have some light foxing). Book spines are all in good to excellent condition. We could not find any tears on pages except for a tear on the second page of volume xx (the page with the author's lithographed signature). All have a varied amount of shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spines. Otherwise shelf wear is very slight. Some have slight age toning. Volume I has been rebacked in leather with the original spine laid down. New endpapers in all of the volumes. Although worn, the set is fairly sound. Headcap of the spine on Volume II is chipped. Text is toned and foxed. The text blocks are sound. The leaf for pages 245-246 in Volume one has a 3 1/2 inch tear running from the fore edge straight into the text. Lacks all of the maps, although it appears they were never bound in (no plate marks or sign of cut pages).
