Rare books from Mabel Winifred

Comprising the twelve-page report, plus folding coloured photolithographic geological map and eleven other plans of lodes and workings on the field. Spine sunned and a little frayed.

Well illustrated trade catalogues of this vintage are scarce and in this superior condition exceedingly so. Sociological insight into the male leisured classes and, increasingly, all Australians.

Spine and corners of boards slightly rubbed; a little scuffing to the lower corners of the front endpapers and two neat repairs to clean tears to one leaf and the rear free endpaper; a few short marginal tears; replacement to corner cut from front free endpaper with a small loss; still a remarkably clean, tight (no splits at staples) and attractive copy of the First Australian Edition printed in Sydney by Shepherd and Newman.

Muir 4319 gives this official date, but it was released in 1922 in time for the Christmas market.
The first book publication of Pixie O'Harris's fairy illustrations. These proved almost irresistible to youthful colorists and it is unusual to come across copies such as this, completely untouched by coloured pencils, pastels or paints.

The dust-jacket is repaired on its blind side, has small chips and creases to the extremities of its spine and wear to its front flap fold.
