Title page nine plates (most folding) and 51 headpieces engraved in copper by Wolf Kilian after Matthias Kager. Light stains. Two early library stamps on title page. Covers slightly creased.

Venetia Vencenzo Valgrifi, 1556. Vellum. Very Good. Written in Italian. Vellum binding with laces showing along spine. Corners and edges worn and bumped. Some small holes and burn marks in the vellum. Outside pages stained in blue. Light foxing on endpapers and small holes worn through front board paper where laces have worn through. Note with previous owner's name, written in brown ink on back of first endpaper. Some stains and fingerprints but overall a clean edition. Book appears to have had some professional restoration with new tissue guard between frontis of author and title page. Title page illustration was precisely cut and glued to a new page. Some of the page edges show a professional repair.

Folio, pp. [28], 398 (i.e. 389), [11]; woodcut printer's device on title and colophon, numerous woodcut initials throughout; full 18th century calf, gilt-decorated spine with gilt faded, bookplate of an early owner (Henry F. Brooks, Esq.) on the front inside board, title page has small holes on edge and bottom. Small pin hole on right edge through to page 26 where probably punched on wrong edge when getting ready to bind. Water stains and tanning mainly to front and back pages. Page 121 is hand written with a blank back and starts back on page 125. Index pages are creased with a blank between last two pages of index. Front cover is detached.

Water stain near top of pages, more pronounced in index area. 2 laid in pieces of paper, one about Santissimo Crocifisso.
