Paul Warfield Tibbets Jr. was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force. He is best known as the pilot who flew the B-29 Superfortress known as the Enola Gay when it dropped Little Boy, the first of two atomic bombs used in warfare, on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Rough cut text block. Number displayed on spine, probably Ex-Lib. but no other evidence. Slightest of toning. A very good + old book …
Books include "A Wonder Book" and "Tanglewood Tales" … Hawthorne wrote these stories for children based on Greek myth and legend. They are incomparable retellings of themes which the Greek dramatists used in creating their immortal plays and literature.

Story of 12 yr. Old boy & yearling fawn on Florida farm. A boy becomes a man on a poor farm in the Florida scrub country. A pet fawn is his constant companion. Made into major film. "The Yearling" which won a Pulitzer prize for its author was subsequently made into a Hollywood motion picture now considered to be a classic.

Heavy toning, first few Title Pages loose, laid in, else rest of contents are clean and square, mild bumping to corners and to head and heel of spine. Title page displays some breakage at edges, all text is visible. First two pages are laid in, remainder are tightly bound. On back loose endpaper is inscribed a verse, calligraphy, 6 lines – Old plays, page before displays pencil inscribed names of plays. FPD appears to be calligraphically inscribed by Scott and FLEP appears to be calligraphically signed by Sir Walter Scott in red ink. Other remarks & titles in back loose blank pages. A very old book and very hard to find any further information …

Grisham's first book, written and published while he was still working as a lawyer and serving in the Mississippi State Legislature. Grisham's book was turned down by a number of publishers, and was finally picked up by the tiny Wynwood Press, which did a modest first printing of 5000 copies. The book didn't sell well, probably because the small publisher was virtually unknown, especially for publishing fiction, and also lacked marketing dollars. When Grisham's second novel, The Firm, was bought by Doubleday and published in 1991, copies of the first printing of A Time to Kill were still available from the publisher.
