This is the authors first published work. The novel won the National Book Award in 1952, was later made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra. Named one of the 100 Best Novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library Board.

An attractive copy. An early draft of "Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man," published posthumously. The British edition preceded the American by a few months.

This was Jones second book following international success with his first book, From Here to Eternity (1951). He spent the next 6 years working on this his second novel. Scribner did a first print run of over 12,000 copies. Reviews were mixed and sales were less than striking. No worries, Jones had already sold the movies rights to MGM. The movie starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

This was Faulkner's seventeenth novel and first since The Hamlet (1940). The author won the Nobel Prize in 1949 but didn't receive it until 1950.
Intruder in the Dust, explores the South's racial problems through the medium of a murder mystery. It was originally planned as a short story. But the work grew to the size of a novel and was not completed until April 1948.

This was le Carre's fifth novel. The authors novel is a Cold War espionage story set in Bonn, West Germany in the 1960's. He creates a world where the lines between right and wrong, good and evil, are horribly blurred. This is le Carré's first standalone novel, and the first not to feature recurring character George Smiley.
