We have laid in a facsimile copy of the rare, original color-toned map, engraved by the publishers. The original green paper covers were removed when bound & are therefore not present. Decorated title label (a little worn & browned) on spine. 720pp. Illust. This copy was a gift from the famous Western historian, E. A. Brininstool. In ink on the ffep is written, "L. H. Spragle from my ole' pard E. A. Brininstool Los Angeles Calif. Nov/1918." The copy is not signed, however, by Brininstool. One of the rarest & most sought of all outlaw & law enforcement books, this is the story of Judge Isaac C. Original black & white portrait of the great American photographer Ansel Adams with original presentation signature by Adams, dated 11-11-68 and taken by Redlands, California, photographer, Jim (James) Sloan, to whom the portrait is inscribed with narrow black felt pen. Image size 7 1/8" x 9 1/16". This photo was professionally applied by the Perma Plaque Company to wooden plaque board & lightly coated with an impervious solution. The Perma Plaque Company has long been famous for preserving valuable objects. Since the taking of the photo (and presumably the placing of it on the board soon thereafter) and during the many years your seller has owned the photo, there is no visible evidence of any discoloration or degradation to the photo. A gorgeous broadside proclamation by Territorial Governor L. Bradford Prince, the proclamation issued on March 2, 1891 for a March 13 observance. ". set apart this year as Arbor Day, to be observed by the people in the planting of trees, for the benefit and adornment of public and private grounds, roads, streets and avenues ." Further, "I repeat the suggestion made a year ago, that trees be planted along all acequias, as this, in a short time, will entirely change the appearance of our valleys, and also afford grateful shade and refreshment to man and beast." Beautifully rebound in three-quarter leather and cloth with gilt titles (slightly flaked) on spine and with new endpapers. 956pp. 100 photogravure portraits plus several other photos. A. E. G. (all edges gilt). Originally owned by and with the signature (three times) of "H. S. Suggs, Berwyn I. T." The second Suggs signature was on a chipped sheet & in rebinding the binder affixed it to a sheet of matching tone and bound it in. The third signature of Mr. Suggs is written along the inner margin of where he is in the book (pps. 580-581). Suggs "... came to Berwyn in the Indian Territory, where he continued in the lumber business [from Texas] and also ran a cotton gin until 1901, when he sold his gin and is now engaged in the hardware and lumber business . . . he is interested [also] in the cattle business, and firm being known as Suggs and Brother." Here is what William Reese (Six Score #83) said of it in his bibliography of 150 best ranching books: "These atlases were designed so that pages could be tipped in. I doubt that any two copies are exactly alike. Pagination through page 340 (this copy 339 with verso blank), although there are many unnumbered pages of views. There are over 300 colored maps, views depicting over 350 scenes, and as many as 25 folding tissue maps interleave, as well as unpaginated text. 44.5 x 38 cm." (15" x 18"). I have been selling and collecting good Oklahoma material, inclusive Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory for nearly 50 years.  Aside from my personal set of the Chronicles, which took me years to compile, I have never seen a complete set (up to the modern era) for sale.  Beginning in 1921, the historical society, organized in 1893, published its first issue, Volume 1, #1.  Later that year (1921) Volume 1 #2 was published.  Because of financial shortages, Volume 1 #3 was not published until 1923. Original boards, but rebound with new spine and leather-looking material extending past the joints and on the board fore edges covering the entire fore edges. Title stamped in gilt on spine. New endpapers. 507pp. The 1841 edition calls for 511pp, so I don't know why the 1839 pagination is in this volume. Howes P619 lists variant issues. This copy has seven engravings. The double page foldout of Braddock's defeat is bound in upside down & is missing about 1/5 of the lower right of the image. Two of the illustrations are full page and we believe include the essential visual information, but in each case there may have been a foldout extension with additional visual material or border.
