New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1920. First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 298 pp. Brown cloth binding with black titles. Spine cloth darkened, spine titles faded but clear, spine ends frayed, light soiling to covers, corners bumped, interior toned, spine a bit shaky but hinges and text secure, corner of page 9 torn off not affecting text, text clean, prior owner's pencil signature on front endpaper. Yezierska's first book, a collection of short stories previously published in magazines, and later made into a movie, about Jewish immigrant ghetto life on the Lower East Side of New York. Scarce first printing of author's first book.

This is an apparent reissue with a twist of original title by the publisher of the 1869 Women of New York or the Under-world of a Great City by Ellington - a pseudonym according to OCLC, possibly for James Dabney McCabe in the opinion of one scholar (citation on request).
