Publisher's black boards with gilt spine lettering and map end-papers. A VG copy (bumps to 2 corners, pushing at the base of the spine, light foxing to the page block edges). The book has the correct printing number line: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 to the copyright page. The D/W is the correct suppressed first impression with the 3 heads to the front panel. The D/W was subsequently changed for the second impression. The D/W is priced £16.99 to the front flap as called for. The D/W is also in VG condition with creasing at the head of the spine (although this is not particularly visible from the front). Note: the book is the correct UK first edition, first Impression which was destined for the export markets and for UK airport shops, as the author was dissatisfied with the somewhat bland design of the original dust wrapper. Signed by the Author to the title page as "John Le Carre/ aka David Cornwell". Double-Signed copies of this book are RARE. Photographs/scans available upon request.
