About This Item

Tokyo, Japan: Graphic-sha, 1991. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. 157pp; illustrated throughout in color. Text in English and Japanese. Bound in lithographed boards (rather than the usual card covers), acetate wrapper. 12" x 9" Daver's 48-page introduction gives an overview of David Stone Martin's work, along with some biographical data and an essay on "Jazz in Pen and Ink." The illustrations are 58 full-page portraits of jazz musicians and 48 pages of record-album covers (averaging five or six per page), all painted in color by David Stone Martin. Printed on the flyleaf: "This copy is one of a private edition limited to 150 copies, published in Tokyo on the 25th of February 1991 and has been signed here by David Stone Martin [and] Manek Daver." Both signatures are clear and bold. On the title-page is a four-line presentation inscription in blue ink, signed by Manek Daver and dated at Tokyo, February 25, 1991.
