Sixteen smart full leather volumes of the selected works of English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy. A Victorian realist, Hardy was highly critical of much in Victorian society, especially on the declining status of rural people in Britain, such as those from his native South West England, with many of these volumes encountering those themes.With each volume published between 1923 and 1925.Present here, and published in 1923 are: 'Two on a Tower'; 'A Changed Man and Other Tales'; 'Life's Little Ironies' and 'The Hand of Ethelberta'.Published in 1924 are: 'Wessex Poems and Other Verses'; 'The Dynasts Part III and the Famous Tragedy of The Queen of Cornwall'; 'A Group of Noble Dames'; 'The Dynasts Part I and II'; 'Desperate Remedies' and 'The Woodlanders'.Finally, published in 1925, are: 'Satires of Circumstance'; 'A Laodicean'; 'The Return of the Native'; The Trumpet-Major' and 'Moments of Vision'.With ten of these volumes featuring an illustrated map of Hardy's fictional Wessex to the rear. In the publisher's original full calf bindings, with gilt detailing. Light fading to back strips. Loss to head of 'Satires of Circumstance' back strip, with shelf wear to back strip heads and tails of seven further volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good
