About This Item
Signed by Rosa Parks. Photographs and profiles of black women who worked for civil rights, in an exhibit which was shown nationally. The project was sponsored by the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College. On page 25 is a full page photograph of Rosa Parks, which she has signed. Part of her picture has been cut out and taped back in. On the opposite page is a smaller photograph of Ms. Juanita Craft, a long time civil right organizer in Texas. The book is from the estate of Joe Atkins who, in 1955, sued North Texas College for admission, based on race. After he won, other Texas colleges admitted black students. Juanita Craft was his sponsor and mentor. I acquired several books from Mr. Atkins estate which help to validate this association. Ms. Parks signature has not been authenticated, but my usual practice is to offer full refund if it can be reasonably demonstrated that the signature is not correct. The book is well thumbed, the top of the spine has a small tear and there is edge wear all around. The pages are clean and unmarked. It is listed a very good-. Rosa Parks has signed, under her photograph on page 25 (no inscription).
