Paris: Imprimerie d'e DuVerger, 1852. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Quarto. 329; 37 pages. Hardback bound in original quarter brown leather with brown marbled paper-covered boards. Red leather label on the spine as well as a gilt-stamped emblem of a "V" with scroll work and a banner beneath a crown. The binding shows moderate rubbing and wear and is sound. Hinges quite sturdy and supple. Marbled endpapers and all edges marbled. Prior owner's bookplate on the front pastedown of "Lewis St. Louis." Text is clean. After the main part of the text (first 200 pages) there are over 100 pages of printed facsimile of handwritten pages (original to the publication which appear to show a register of items, values, etc. Pages 277-319 have been printed as 3/4 pages so that the text at the top of page 321 serves as headers for the columns throughout the section.

With 34 pages of engravings and maps (2), plus two pages of text drawings. Hardcover rebound in modern brown half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Spine is ruled in gilt and has a matching leather lettering piece. Light rubbing and wear to the binding. New endpapers. A sound copy. The text has some damping about the edges in several parts of the book, although much of the volume appears clean. Sturdy and with pleasant shelf appeal. Contains 30 full-page copperplate engravings (including the frontis) as well as two maps (one folding and one single page) as well as 2 other half-page engravings and a half page drawings and a full-page drawing (of a basic cathedral cross-shaped floor plan). Appears to collate complete.

Hardcover bound in early quarter leather with green and tan marbled paper-covered boards. The binding is rubbed and worn but sound. The leather spine is solid. Rubbing along the edges of the binding, and the corners are bumped and worn to the boards beneath. Hinges secure. Complete with 2 front and 2 rear flyleaves. The text is tone and has occasional foxing or staining but overall is quite acceptable. Text is in German. This work does NOT contain scored music. A rough translation of the title is, "Spiritual Songs: With an Appendix, Consisting of Spiritual and Comforting Songs, by Various Poets." A nice early 19th Century Harrisburg, Pennsylvania imprint.

Signed on the back side of the frontis by William Lanier Hunt. William Lanier Hunt (1906-1996) was the "Dean of Southern Horticulture." The two leaves for pages 63-66 have large creases at the top right, affecting the text. Signed by an officer on the front cover. Signed "A. F. Kingman" who is listed in the rear of the book as 2nd Lt / 1st Lt. Capt. Early markings (presumably by Kingman), have pencil notations in the list of names, some marginal notes reading "KIA" for those killed in action. Scarce.

Each volume has a tipped-in photo as a frontis. Text is a little toned and has some occasional pencil markings in the margins. An attractive set.

Italy: N.p., 1873. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Oblong Quarto measuring just about 9 inches long by 6 1/2 inches tall. The binding is a white hardcover made to look like vellum (but is likely treated paper-covered boards) and has cover designs and lettering embossed in gilt. All edges red. Some of the thick pages are a bit wavy about the edges. The binding is soiled and bumped but is sound. There is some cracking to the front and rear hinges near the headcap. The front cover is stamped "ROMA" There is not date in the volume, but the images appear to be late 19th century. Image #46 is dated (printed along with the image in the margin) 1873. Although the front cover states "Roma", the images appear to be mostly from Pisa, Naples and Pompeii and contains some scenery as well as a number of images of art from museums. Although several images are noted to be from Pisa, there is NO IMAGE OF THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA. There are 11 unused…
