About This Item
Rare first edition, published September, 1905. In excellent condition. It would get a Fine rating except for light shelf wear on covers and shadowing on the inside covers and adjacent end papers. Pages are clear, clean, without marks, tears of foxing. Includes seven photos of relevant individuals, including Wagner.
The book seems to be as much about Wagner as this particular opera.
From Wikipedia (abridfed):
" Gustav Kobbé (March 4, 1857[1] – July 27, 1918)[2] was an American music critic and author, best known for his guide to the operas. He made his career in literary and newspaper work, and contributed articles on musical and dramatic subjects to the leading magazines and periodicals. He became music critic of the New York Herald when that newspaper was owned by James Gordon Bennett, remaining with it for eighteen years".
