The first edition.Half-title is present. Two pages of adverts to the rear.Collated, lacking eight pages of the publisher's adverts. The collected early works of Robert Dodsley.This volume includes: 'The Toy-Shop', 'The King and the Miller of Mansfield', 'The Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green', 'Rex & Pontifex', 'The Chronicle of the Kings of England', 'The Art of Preaching, in Imitation of Horace's Art of Poetry', 'The Right of Mankind to do what they will, asserted', and more.Dodsley was a booksellers, poet, and publisher of the eighteenth century. As a publisher he produced Thomas Gray's 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard', and also collaborated with the innovative printer John Baskerville. In a rebacked calf binding, with new endpapers. Externally, smart, boards are rubbed and a little discoloured. Minor bumping to the extremities. A few small marks to the boards. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some scattered spots. Tape repair to the gutter before the title page. Very small worm hole to pages v -viii, of 'The Toy-Shop'. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
