About This Item

London: Faber & Faber, 1976. 70pp. Original publisher's pink monochrome laminate wrappers, lettered in black. Lightly scuffed, internally bright and clean. From the estate of Olwyn Hughes, recently dispersed, though no indications of such. Barry Kyle (1947) is a prolific English theatre director, beginning his career at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1969 before becoming assistant director of the RSC in 1973, directing in black box theatre The Other Place - where he concieved, adapted, and staged this dramatisation of Sylvia Plath's poetry and life. Working internationally, he has also directed performances in Czech and Hebrew. He has twice been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award. This is his only publication. Olwyn Hughes (1928-2016) was a translator, agent and literary executor who had worked in Paris for NATO, Martonplay, and King Peter II of Yugoslavia, among others. After the death of her sister-in-law Sylvia Plath, she returned to England to assist her brother, Ted Hughes, raise his young children, though also took over the management of both his career and Plath's literary estate. While she did have some other clients as a literary agent, including Jean Rhys, much of the rest of her life was dedicated to preserving - and defending - both Plath and Hughes. . First edition. 8vo.

Antiquates Ltd

Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.

Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.

We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.

We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
