About This Item

From piece pasted on end paper (I believe it to be part of the original dust jacket): "...So incisive and vigorous is this record of heroism, gallantry, strife, and consusion, of colossal blunders and terrible tragedies, that one loses sight of the fact that he is reading history, and finds himself reliving battles, deciding policies, and what, and watching events with the great leaders of the period, as though he, too, were a part of those stirring times."

The author, "...has written one of the first complete records of the South, and has given due credit to the brave men and great leaders of the North."

Some black and white photo inserts.

Book - Very Good- condition. Gray coated cloth over boards with impressed navy color seal "The Confederate States of America 22 February 1862, Deo Vindice" on the front. Navy text on the spine. Closed book pages have a previous owner's stamp: "Harland F. Seeley, Major 12th Infantry" [Note: I am not sure about that last name.] Black tint on top of pages. Some soiling and stains to covers, plus a small gouge in the back cover. Includes a bookmark, a History Book Club paper, and a newspaper clipping from 10/90 about the remains of a Confederate soldier in North Carolina. Text is clean and binding is very good.
