London, David Bogue, 1881 1st edition.. Hardback, approx 7 x 5.5 inches. In full calf leather fine binding by “H. Southeran & Riviere.” Gilt line paneled boards, raised banding and gilt decorations to spine. Top page edges gilt, marbled endpapers and gilt edge dentelles. In very good condition. Some minor marks to cover; some minor darkening/staining to leather along leading board edges. Edges and corners rubbed, edges of spine rubbed. Repair to binding at main title page, endpapers slightly pulled out, tear to halftitle and main title pages at inner edges. some minor handling marks and some light minor foxing spots to inside pages. Else a clean and tight copy. 60pp. With original paper cover bound at rear. Collection of poems with a nautical historical theme. The first five long poems are broadly about Sir Francis Drake. The author was a British diplomat, poet and politician. He served as British Ambassador to Italy during the First World War.
