This is one of the first pamphlets in the making of Taylor as hero. Authorship is attributed to "The One-legged Sergeant." "Much of Texas interest, including material on the Texas Rangers and the battles on Texas soil. One chapter concerns "The Great Western" (pp. 26-28). The reference is to Sarah Borginnis, the 6' 2" Amazon who became famous for her outstanding feats of bravery performed in several battles of the war, here at Fort Brown. The present work is one of the few contemporary sources on this remarkable woman. Includes numerous breathless accounts of battles and two woodcuts illustrative of the actions." – Dorothy Sloan.Reviews
