Original brown cloth binding stamped in blind on front and rear boards and in gilt on spine. [viii], 976pp. Contains law authorizing the Commission, report of the Commissioners, evidence presented by various witnesses at hearings held February-March, 1872, arguments, and the resultant bill authorizing federal aid for the construction of the Sutro Tunnel. This tunnel provided drainage from silver mines in Nevada's Comstock Lode. Laid in is a [4]pp remonstrance from nine superintendents of mines, other than the one owned by Adolph Sutro, opposing such federal assistance. The Sutro Tunnel was later completed in 1879. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
