OCLC shows no holdings for this photographer. He is not in Langdon's List of 19th & Early 20th Century Photographers. The sod house was an alternative to the log cabin during frontier settlement of the Great Plains when there was a lack of timber for building. Settler families tended to live in their sod houses six or seven years. - "Living in a Sod House," Nebraskastudies.org Photograph shows a family group, with men on horseback, children and a dog outside a sod house. Pointer is named in Paddock, A Brief History of Malvern, [Iowa] 1917: "J. W. Pointer is our new picture man." This entry is for 1901. There is another entry for 1904 listing an assistant at Pointer's Gallery. Malvern is across the river from Nebraska.
