A first edition (so designated by lack of additional printings) of a collection of six essays by six historians who are described as distinguished. The essence of the essays is to debunk the old belief that westward expansion in the American West was a "good thing." Rather, they see expansion as a negative, with unfortunate results. Edited, with a prologue, by Gene M. Gressley. Illustrated throughout with drawings from the Hans Kleiber Collection from the University of Wyoming. --- A very attractive volume, in beige cloth-covered boards and black spine titling. Volume wrapped in jacket with a colorized lake landscape from the Kleiber collection. --- An about Fine copy lacking perceptible damages. Unpriced jacket also lacks damages; is wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; viii, 199 pages .
