Hurd and Houghton, New York, 1873. Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition, First Printing. 351 PP. PO attribution on inside front pastedown. A biography of Alice and Phoebe Cary along with the later poems of each author. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, the sisters moved to New York City after the success of their early poetry. Phoebe Cary was a staunch supporter of women's rights and edited "Revolution", published by Susan B. Anthony. Covers mostly clean, with moderate wear to head and foot of spine. Illustrated with two black and white steel engraved plates showing the portraits of Alice and Phoebe Cary. Tissue guard for Alice's portrait is mostly missing. 351 pp text clean and unmarked. Light foxing on title page.
