About This Item
San Francisco: The Clemens Publishing Company, 1892. Hardcover. Copyrighted 1891, title page gives 1892, a typed vita of about 300 words is laid in discussing other editions (detailed below). Sewn textblock in a hard casing, cloth-covered boards, matte-green cloth titled gilt and ruled black. Most of cover gilt has flaked away, spine titling flaked and completely illegible. Endsheets and blanks are alkaline and remain untoned, with pastedowns occupied by two ownership legends (1903, 1952) and a seller's clip from an old catalogue describing a different copy. Easily handled, a fair, better-than reading copy. This Clemens was nephew to Twain. Enclosed typewritten vita is anonymous, fully literate, had access to the three softbound Bancroft Library copies, compares them with a softbound under discussion but not in hand (ours is cased in original cloth boards).
