New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1896. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Very good. First edition, first state of The Little Regiment by Stephen Crane.. Small octavo, 196pp, [6pp ads]. Tan buckram, title in black on spine, with red embellishments and title in black on front cover. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Solid text block, a few bumped edges, light soiling to spine and covers, a small red stain to back cover. Features first state point of publisher's ads beginning with "Gilbert Parker's Best Books." (BAL 4076) (Williams & Starrett 10). Stephen Crane was a prolific American writer during the late 19th century. Most notable for his works in the "realist" tradition, he was an inspiration for writers throughout the 20th century, including Ernest Hemingway. He lived a short life, dying at the age of 28 in 1900.
