Four volumes, complete in eight. Second edition. A multiple volume history of the wars of Italy, from the legendary beginnings of Rome, through medieval times, to the Late Roman Empire. Written by Thomas Hodgkin, a British historian, biographer, and Quaker minister remembered for this work on the history of the wars in the Late Roman Empire. This set includes: Volume I, Book I - The Visigothic Invasion Part I. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece, four monochromatic plates, and two folding maps in colour. Volume I, Book I - The Visigothic Invasion Part II. Illustrated with one monochromatic plate, one coloured plate, one map, and one folding map in colour. Volume II, Book II - The Hunnish Invasion & Book III - The Vandal Invasion and the Herulian Mutiny Illustrated with coloured frontispiece, three folding map in colour, two maps in colour, and one monochromatic plate. Volume III, Book IV - The Ostrogothic Invasion Illustrated with a monochromatic frontispiece, three folding map in colour, one map in colour, one folding table, two monochromatic plates, and one folding plate. Collated complete. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light wear to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Library markings to the tail of the spine. Minor loss to the head of the spine of volume three. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Library bookplate to the front pastedown with ink stamp to the reverse of the title page. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
