About This Item

New York, Chicago, Toronto, London and Edinburgh: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1911. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good+/Fine. Jean-Francois Millet. 8vo. Pp. 155. Frontis. illustration reproduces Millet's painting the Gleaners. Bound in off-white half-cloth over paper-covered boards decorated with stamped wheat and white lettering within brown borders, brown lettering on spine. Just a tad cocked, with gift inscription on front free endpaper, dust soiling to top edge. In the dust jacket with the 75-cent price intact. An early dust jacket, surprisingly well preserved, that presents Millet's (in)famous painting that was met with hostility upon exhibition. The binding itself is a triumph of book design. Dust jacket now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
