Hardcover. 171, (3) pages; Clean and secure in original light green cloth binding with gilt lettering in bright pictorial dustjacket. Color frontispiece, clolour and b&w photographs throughout. Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) was a British horticulturist, garden designer, craftswoman, photographer, writer and artist. he was one of the first of her profession to take into account the colour, texture, and experience of gardens as aspects of her designs. Jekyll's theory of how to design with colour was influenced by painter J. M. W. Turner and by Impressionism, and by the theoretical colour wheel. She created and consulted on over 400 gardens in the UK, Europe and America, and wrote over 1000 articles for magazines such as Country Life and William Robinson's The Garden. Jekyll's influence on garden design has been pervasive to the present day. .

At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years. Over those many years we have taken great pleasure from satisfying our customers' eclectic literary requirements in the shop and hope to continue in that tradition now that we have moved our operation on-line.Currently, our catalogued inventory includes about 4,000 books from the sixteenth century through the twentieth century in a variety of subject areas. Our stock comprises antiquarian books, collectible books and scholarly books, as well as a selection of antique prints and ephemera.The books listed here represent only a small portion of our total inventory. We are in the process of cataloguing the extensive holdings in our warehouse (15,000+ books) and hope to flesh out these pages over the months to come.
