A charming scarce collection of short stories by Flora Annie Steel, who lived in British India for twenty-two years, and was noted for her works set in the Indian sub-continent. The third impression of this scarce work, which was first published in September 1893.In the original pictorial cloth binding.Consisting of eight short stories, and the four part 'Songs of the People' collection to the rear.The 1911 edition of the 'Encyclopædia Britannica' names this as one of her two best works.Steel is best remembered for her 1896 novel 'On the Face of the Waters' about the Indian Mutiny.With a thirty-two page publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to board perimeters. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned due to paper type, with significant spotting and handling marks throughout. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
