The first edition, first impression of this work, in the publisher's original price clipped dust wrapper.With eight photographic plates. Collated, complete.This fascinating horticultural work contains a number of articles written by Vita Sackville-West for The Observer, and is divided by month. The work is credited as being both a practical guide, whilst maintaining a romantic and somewhat poetic tone.In 1930, Sackville-West moved to Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, a property which had previously been owned by Vita's relatives. She, along with her diplomat husband Sir Harold Nicolson spent many years restoring the gardens on the estate. After a six year break from writing in order to restore the grounds, Sackville-West began writing once more in order to help fund her gardens, including a regular column for The Observer entitled 'In Your Garden'.Vita Sackville-West was an English poet, novelist and horticulturalist, as well as a prolific letter writer and diarist. She is also known as the protagonist of 'Orlando', written by her friend and lover Virginia Woolf. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price clipped dust wrapper.
