As correspondent for The Times at Trebizond Oliphant met the Turkish commander Omar Pasha, joined his force and was present at the battle of the Ingour. A first hand valuable account of Ottoman military operations from both a political and military point of view.

First American edition of this book. Published by T. Allen, New York, 1792. Binding is fine. Modern half leather and marbled boards by Starr Bookworks. Interior is very good. Has a few stamps from New York Mercantile Library. Edges show foxing, interior is toned, occasional old creases, no vandalism, writing or other issues. Pages remain supple. Lacking old blanks, otherwise complete as issued. Lee was a British born career military officer who sought to lead the Continental Army in place of Washington. Lee is most famous now for his various hasty and leisurely retreats including being captured in his night gown by the British in 1776. After a prisoner exchange in 1778 Lee resumed command only to be court-martialled a few months later for insubordination. He must have had something going for him because he survived 30 years of military encounters where strategic withdrawal was not always an option. A small bump on the top back corner, a small scuff on the front endpaper where a previous owner's label has been removed and a small neat price in ink on the top corner of the back endpaper. This is an album of the story of Electronics in Operation Crossroads, which was the detonation of the atomic bomb around Bikini Island, in the South Pacific in 1946. Photographs of men, equipment and landscapes at the time of, what was called "the greatest peacetime experiment in the history of mankind". Several photographs of the blasts, including their aftermath. Full roster of various crews, led by Vice Admiral W H P Blandy, Jr, USN. There is a signature on the front page, presumably that of the original owner: "R W Ellison, 3-21-46, Pearl Harbor". The book is damaged; it has pulled away from the spine on the inside front. There is no flyleaf. The end papers are a 2 page map of the South Pacific showing the location of Bikini Island. The cover is scuffed and weathered, but everything is intact. I've never seen another copy offered.

The Springfield Rifle was a prolific American firearm throughout the second half of the 19th-century. The United States Army published a recurring user manual that made care for these weapons much more manageable. This 1898 edition of the 'Management of the Springfield Rifle' was published during the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War and offers excellent descriptions of the 1898 trapdoor carbine, colt single action revolvers.
