About This Item
New York: Crown Publishers, (1971). First edition. His inexplicably scarce novel centering on race relations in the South. SIGNED BY JONES on title page, with ownership signature of Jane & Walter Sullivan on front endpaper, and publisher's "Compliments of .... sent at the author's request" slip laid in. Walter Sullivan (1924-2006) was an author, critic, longtime Vanderbilt University professor, authority on Southern literature, and founding member of The Fellowship of Southern Writers. And Madison Jones (1925-2012) -- who was associated with the "Southern Agrarians" -- was a Fellowship charter member. Spine ends gently pushed otherwise fine in near fine dust jacket with lamination beginning to separate along edges in few small areas and subtle imperfection in laminate on front. Exceedingly scarce in the first edition and seemingly rare signed.
