About This Item
Dublin, King Farouk, 1987. . First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author; 8vo; unmarked internally; publisher's pictorial wrappers, minor creasing close to spine, else near-fine.

However, following the highly successful eponymous film adaptation in 1991, directed by Alan Parker, it attracted a cult status in telling the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young music fanatic who assembles a group of working-class youths to form a soul band named 'The Commitments'.
With the author's signed presentation inscription to the half-title, 'To Ferdia, Roddy Doyle. 12/1/91.' The recipient was the Irish author Ferdia Mac Anna.
