Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifty-seven plates, some of which are in colour, and four plans. Collated complete. A detailed historical commentary on shipping, with records of the beautiful sailing ships which played so great a part in the development of the British Dominions under the Southern Cross. Includes chapters on the power of gold, the Marco Polo, most notable clippers of 1853, extraordinary twenty-four hour runs, record voyages, and more. Written by Alfred Basil Lubbock, a British historian, sailor and soldier. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting predominantly to the first and last few pages. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown. Good
