Rebound by library in maroon (26, 28) and brown (27) buckram, overcast sewing, [iii], 457, [i], 549, [i], 540 pp. Date of vol. 27 is 1826, vol. 28 is 1827. Usual library markings, heavily foxed, otherwise about very good as rebound. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica (11th Ed., 1911), Orderic Vitalis (1075 - c. 1142) was given the task of writing a history (his Historia Ecclesiastica) of the monastery of St. Evroul, which begain with a brief history of Christianity in general, and then of St. Evroul, but the later books in this history expanded into a general history of his own times. Orderic becomes of some use to the historian beginning with his account of William the Conqueror, and is one of the main authorities for events from 1082 through 1141.
