From Wikipedia: Claude Aveline, pen name of Evgen Avtsine (1901 – 1992), was a writer, publisher, editor, poet and member of the French Resistance. Aveline, born in Paris, has authored numerous books and writings throughout his writing career. He was known as a versatile author, writing novels, poems, screenplays, plays, articles, sayings, and more.
From Harper Collins, Publisher (abridged): Yan Nascimbene, Half-French, half-Italian, shared his childhood between these two countries. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and at the University of California, Davis.
Nascimbene's illustrations have appeared in numerous publications worldwide. His commercial clients included Air France, British Airways, Continental Airlines, IBM, Apple, Macy's, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Bank of America, United Way, Estée Lauder, Manpower, and more. Nascimbene also illustrated Houghton's Hachiko by Pamela Turner and The Beautiful Christmas Tree by Charlotte Zolotow.
UNIQUE FEATURE: The 5th free endpaper has an original art rendering by Yan, followed by a dated signature (photo).
POSSIBLE PROVENANCE: This book was anonymously donated to a non-profit entity in Davis, CA. Nascimbene's academic studies included attendance at the University of California, Davis (above). The identity of Mark is unknown, but he was possibly a fellow art student or instructor and Yan presented this copy to him in April, 1995, some 5 years after its publication.
