Octavo, xvi, 214pp. Green cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Top edge dyed green. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, foxed edges, a near fine example. In a near fine dust jacket, faint sunning to spine, light wear to corners. Vibrant colored plate of carnations on front panel. Inscribed with "best wishes to Mr. Simpson, the Royal Gardener... Montagu C. Allwood 16/2/37" on the front free endpaper. George Simpson worked as the King's head gardener at Windsor Castle throughout the 1940s and 50s. Simpson was well respected in the field of gardening, serving as a judge in the Olympia Flower Show in 1950.
