Full black morocco with multi colour design of two boxed lines in brown morocco across both boards and the spine, with tan, green and red design within each box. The spine is also lettered in gilt. Wood effect endpapers. All edges gilt. Housed in a felt lines chemise with the same wood effect paper on the boards and a black morocco spine, lettered in gilt and with one of the red designs onlaid between the title and authors. Calvert's rarest print album

Very rare plate album by Irish landscape painter Frederick Calvert, complete with 24 "picturesque views" and in the original binding. Calvert moved to England in 1815 and, besides painting, produced a number of print albums and model books, a.o. The young artist's instructor (London, Hodgson and Co., 1823) and Rural scenery (London, Hodgson and Co., ca. 1825). He designed plates for Picturesque views ... in Staffordshire and Shropshire (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830-1831), and for A new and compendious history, of the county of Warwick (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830). Perhaps his most famous work was for The Isle of Wight illustrated (1846).

Original Publisher's full vellum, with gilt decoration and lettering, very good with minimal wear, slight rubbing to edges, vellum has developed a slight patina, ribbon ties missing. Original decorated endpapers, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions, paper slightly toned, all plates and tissue guards in very good condition without creases or folds; uncut edges a little dust soiled, paper crisp and appears unread. A very good copy of this superb limited edition..
