Kansas City: Andrews and McMeel Publishing,, 1979. Association Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR at front end page -" To Jim and Beth, with affectionate best wishes and prayers - & thanks. Ever devotedly in Notre Dame, Father Ted Hesburgh". . Important education and Civil Rights Association Copy. James Armsey, ( 1918-2008) was the Ford Foundation executive who oversaw grants to universities and colleges in the 1960s, with the only requirement that they had to raise matching funds from other sources. At his urging the Foundation added the requirement that the colleges and universities could not bar black students. This change caused a number of them, including Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Emory University, Tulane University, and several major private colleges, to admit black students for the first time. Father Ted Hesburgh (1917-2015) was president of the University of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987, a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and one of the nation’s most influential figures in higher education, the Catholic Church, and national and international affairs. Fine, with scattered underlining and marginal markings and the Armsey's blindstamp at title page and last page of text, in a Near Fine dust jacket, top corner front flap price-clipped, and in Fine blue cloth slipcase. . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR. First Edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Association Copy.

Description:
New York: Harpers, The Century Co., A.L Burt, Grosset & Dunlap , 1912. A wonderful collection of 11 Hollywood Association Copies. Rupert Hughes was the uncle of Howard Hughes and a prolific novelist, film director, and Oscar-nominated Hollywood screen writer. Will H. Hays managed Warren G. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position, he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA), which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire, inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts, and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies, Hays installed a more formal production code, called the Hays Code( later simply "The Code"), which became the virtual… Read More

New York: Harcourt Brace & Co., 1983. Association Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR in the year of publication on the half-title page - "for Nan Miller Umberto Eco, June 83". An excellent Association Copy, Nan Miller was an editor at Indiana University Press for over 30 years. In IU Preident Thomas Ehrlich's 1993 address for Eco's Honorary Degree for Doctor of Humane Letters he noted that " ... for more than 15 years, Indiana University has been a home away from home. One draw was the university's Research Center for Language and Semiotic Studies in Bloomington. Another was the Indiana University Press, which inaugurated its Advances in Semiotics series with Professor Eco's first major English publication, A Theory of Semiotics. Since then, the IU Press has published five additional books in semiotics that were authored, coauthored, or coedited by Professor Eco."
