About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1948. First edition of the book companion to Rodgers and Hammerstein's third collaboration for the stage. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Portrait of Hammerstein by Lupas. Rodger and Hammerstein's third collaboration for the stage, Allegro opened on Broadway on October 10, 1947 and was followed by a short national tour. Ward Morehouse of the New York Sun declared it, "a distinguished and tumultuous musical play... excitingly unconventional in form... it takes its place alongside 'Oklahoma!' and 'Carousel' as a theatrical piece of taste, imagination, and showmanship.'
