First issue, with the first word on page 207 in No. 7 misprinted "actresses" (corrected in later editions to "ancestresses")and issue 12 with the Chapter numberings incorrectly shown as "XLVIII"-"XLIX" Issue 20 has the tipped in errata regarding omitted plates; . Original yellow printed wrappers, generally very good condition, bindings consistently excellent and square. Preserved in cloth chemise and full green morocco gilt decorated pull-off box [Van Duzer 232], 8vo, 1857-59.

Later patterned boards with gilt lettered leather label and new endpapers. One page with central crease, textblock slightly toned. Collation: xii, 224pp (2) (errata & directions to binder), errata leaf with short closed tear. 8vo. A scarce account of pioneer life in the early 19th century. The lithograph plates include views of a log tavern in Indiana, Little Brandywine, Pennsylvania, the place of worship at Legionier, the ferry at Maysville on the Ohio, Frankfurt, Kentucky, and the church at Harmony, Indiana.

For Osborne Brown et al London, 1762. later edition. Hardback. Near Fine/No Jacket. Tenth edition 1762 8vo. A complete copy with 4 folding charts. Full contemporary polished calf, a little worn to joints but very square and sound, original spine label in red morocco. Front free endpaper becoming detached from the binding but still in place. Chart 3 is creased but the collective charts are without the usual irritating plethora of handling tears, and without the common foxing. There is a little general age soiling but overall this is a very attractive, unmolested and all original copy. Provenance : Recent bookplate of Colin Malcolm Paul, 18th century ink name John Hall Fordhill
