Description:
Boldly signed on half title page by Harry S. Truman (aka "Give 'Em Hell Harry"). Book and Dust Jacket are in beautiful condition. Clean text. Unclipped ($3.00). Protected by Brodart book jacket cover. Truman is one of our great Presidents. In 1959 former President Truman gave a series of lectures and seminars on government at Columbia University. "The book is a transcript of what he had to tell them about the Presidency, the Constitution and demagoguery more poignant and human than Truman's official memoirs" (New York Times). President Truman had a sign on his desk, "The Buck Stops Here."Truman had been vice president for 82 days when President Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945. Truman, presiding over the Senate, as usual, had just adjourned the session for the day and was preparing to have a drink in House Speaker Sam Rayburn's office when he received an urgent message to go immediately to the White House, where Eleanor Roosevelt told him that her husband had died after a massive cerebral… Read More

Thirteen Days: A Memoir of the Cuban Missile Crisis by Robert F. Kennedy is a concise and gripping first person narrative about a significant period in or countries history. Written by the President's brother from his unique personal perspective, this book offers insights which are not available in other accounts. While it may not be as comprehensive as some books, Thirteen Days offers a quick read certain to clarify the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Examining a text like this with the benefit of hindsight might lead some people to question whether or not the President and his advisors acted as effectively as they might have during the Crisis. However, after reviewing the facts I question whether… Read More

Description:
"First Lady of the World" is how President Harry Truman referred to Eleanor Roosevelt. At roughly the same time J. Edgar Hoover thought Eleanor might be a Communist. But as author and intellectual Garry Wills wrote, "there was nothing radical about her, either in temperament or principle. She would not join in civil rights activities if they included civil disobedience."Eleanor Roosevelt beautifully signed card with The White House Washington engraved in top right corner (see picture). Card is very neatly mounted on half title page. Book is very good condition generally toned throughout and price clipped. Dust jacket also very good with tears on top of binding and smaller chips on bottom of binding. Front and back of dust jacket are in very good condition (see pictures). Protected by Brodart book jacket cover.

Boldly Inscribed on first front page: To Dan Moll, With warmest best regards Gerald R. FordBook and dust jacket both in fine condition. Very small bump and tiny chip in jacket at spine. Clean text. Unclipped ($12.95). Protected by Brodart book jacket cover. When Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974, Ford automatically assumed the presidency. This made him the only person to become the nation's chief executive without having been previously voted into either the presidential or vice-presidential office by the Electoral College. Immediately after Ford took the oath of office in the East Room of the White House, he spoke to the assembled audience in a speech that was broadcast live to the nation. Ford noted the peculiarity of his position: "I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your president by your ballots, and so I ask you to confirm me as your president with your prayers."

Description:
Beautiful Fine book with fine dust jacket signed boldly on first blank page: J Carter. Clean text. Unclipped ($22.00). Protected by Brodart book jacket cover.Laid in: Original Washington Post review of the book January 14, 1993.From Publishers Weekly. In this engrossing account of his first campaign for public office, the former President describes himself as a naive 38-year-old farmer and small-businessman who got an education in the rough-and-tumble of Georgia politics. The year was 1962, and the "one man, one vote" ruling had just been handed down by the Supreme Court. On Election Day Carter watched helplessly as Joe Hurst, a supporter of his opponent in the race for state senator, stole the election with blatant ballot-stuffing. Carter hired a lawyer and, aided by a journalist's expose, forced a recount to come up a winner. A suspenseful narrative about a neophyte's harsh introduction to regional politics, the story of Carter's local victory also illuminates the end of the legalized system… Read More
