A first UK edition. 8vo., original brown cloth boards, gilt lettering to the spine, with the original dust jacket; pp. [xxxi] 223; A very good or better copy. The jacket hasn't been price clipped and has very little if any loss. The top of the spine has some minor wear and rubbing. The spine has browned. The upper text block has foxing marks and so does the first four or five preliminary pages. An excellent copy and scarce. Boris Pilniak's (Pilnyak) first book to be published in the English language. It is a collection of his earliest writing. This book was published only two years after his first novel was written in Russia, the censored 'The Naked Year' about the Russian Civil War. Description:
London: Stanley Paul. First UK edition published by Stanley Paul in 1952. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper is pretty much complete. There is a tear to the top left hand corner of the front panel. The spine has faded by a shade or two. The back panel is marked. There is minor wear along the edges and corners. It is an extremely fragile wrapper and this is one of the better examples we have handled. The book is in very presentable condition. There is no previous owner's ink. The is some foxing marks to the first few pages and to the text block. Overall a very good copy. This copy is very rare as it has the signature of Alf Ramsey on the front free end paper. The autobiography of England great Alf Ramsey where he discusses his playing days for Spurs and England. He would of course go on to reach sporting immortality by managing England to its world cup victory in 1966. A very rare book to find signed.  . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1952.

Sir Isaac Pitman. London: Sir Isaac Pitman (1926). 8vo., original beige card covers, with the original dust jacket; pp. 62; with 12 plates including that of John Logie Baird. A good copy. The upper card cover has a darker mark to the bottom of the card and a crease to the bottom right hand corner. The binding is exposed between p32 and 33 although holding firm. The fragile original wrapper has two tears to the front panel at the top and bottom and there is a split to the fore edge. There is general wear to the edges and a chip to the bottom edge of the back panel. The jacket in general is worn.  The first book on television. This book was written by Dinsdale to explain, mainly the work of John Logie Baird to the reader in plain language about how television works. There is a plate of the first picture taken by Television on p38.   . Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1926.

The jacket hasn't been price clipped displaying 6s. net. The notoriously fragile wrapper is complete and rare thus. There is light edgewear and rubbing to the spine ends and corners. There are three small repaired tears with archival tape on the reverse of the jacket. It is an excellent example.  Graham Greene's novel that came after the classic film noir starring Orson Welles. Greene wrote the screenplay for the film and then decided, such was the film's success that he needed to write the novel. Methuen. First edition published by Methuen in 1929. A near fine copy. The wrapper is complete with no loss. It is not price clipped with the correct price displayed on the spine of 5/- net. There is the odd dirt mark to the front panel but overall it is remarkably clean and more so than is usually found. The spine is without any browning at all. The book has a neat contemporary inscription. There is the odd foxing mark and patch of browning but again overall it is in excellent condition.  Winnie the Pooh author A.A.
