Description:
London: Effingham Wilson Lithographed broadside, no date c.1831? Approximately 310mm x 490mm in size (image approximately 230mm x 400mm). Tears with small amount of loss to top corners (presumably where once pinned up), lightly soiled and creased. Text is by Sydney Smith, from the Edinburgh Review in 1820, a satire on the ubiquity of taxation. The portrait is of Henry, Lord Brougham, with his motto to foot of image. Wellcome 574470i, Senate House has a similar item described as a single sheet with a single line border, c.1820 with a woodcut portrait of Earl Grey - Goldsmiths 22928. Tentatively dated as c.1831 as the portrait appears to show Brougham as Lord Chancellor, which he was appointed to in late 1830, so it is certainly unlikely to be earlier. Unknown. Unbound. Good. Illus. by Ingrey, Charles. Elephant Folio. Broadside.

Description:
London: J. Tabby [Printer], 1831. Single sided broadside, approximately 215mm x 340mm in size. Slightly chipped to edges, small spot to centre and one towards foot, otherwise quite bright and clean. A benefit for Mr. [James] Wallack, an actor and later manager, with a Napoleon related play, 'The Little Corporal; or, the School of Bonaparte', relating to his time at the military school at Brienne and the celebrated snow ball fight led by Napoleon in the winter of 1783-4, with a 'terrific bombardment with snow balls!' Also appearing were Cooke's Equestrian establishment and his 'celebrated stud of ponies', promising a 'grand attack of Lilliputian cavalry'. The printer was (I think) J.[ohn] Tabby (whose printing of his own imprint doesn't act as a very good advert for his services), see BBTI. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Folio. Broadside.

Huntington was a devout high-churchman who initially provoked evangelical opposition in Tenby. A mission conducted there in 1877 by ritualist clergy under his auspices led to a controversy involving the bishop of St David's (see Three Letters on the Subject of the Late Tenby Mission, 1877). The hostility gradually disappeared, however, and Huntington was able to restore his church with the support of his parishioners" (Oxford DNB). Beccles: R.B. Jarman [Printer] Single sided printed leaflet, approximately 185mm x 220mm in size, n.d. but probably c.1830. Lightly browned, stained, with top left hand corner missing, vertical paper flaw affecting a few letters but with no loss of sense. "If you burn my Barn or my Stack, why may I not burn your Cottage and Furniture, destroy your Cabbages and Potatoes, and all the crop of your Garden? ... When, therefore, you feel tempted to join a Riotous Party, ask yourself this question - Should I like it myself? - and then DO AS YOU WOULD BE DONE BY". The printer was R.[obert] B.[arnett] Jarman, (fl. 1812-1851), who was the son of a papermaker. BL only in Library Hub, suggesting 1834 as the publication date, but the protests had ended by then.
