Bound in full dark green (almost black) Morocco with gilt inner dentelles and marbled end papers. Binding contains some areas of rubbing and wear; several small spots have received a color touch-up. Volume I. pp. viii, 628, with frontispiece of the author. Volume II. pp. 205, [1]. Bound in period quarter leather with marbled boards. Re-backed; the original spine is preserved although it is darkened and well worn. Inner hinges neatly strengthened. Interior pages contain mild scattered foxing and minor wear. Peder Rhode (1734-1793) was a Danish pastor and historian. His "Samlinger til de danske Øers Laalands og Falsters Historie" (first published in two volumes 1776-94) contains interesting details on the customs, life-style, superstition and folklore of the Danish islands Lolland and Falster. The 1859 edition includes many changes, additions and corrections.

Bound in full blind stamped period vellum with 7 raised bands on the spine. Front hinge is professionally repaired / strengthened. Pages are generally clean and crisp with a periodic spot of foxing (or miniscule ash burn); an occasional leaf is lightly age-toned. Several pages towards the end of the volume are numbered and signed twice (i.e. 543 544). A front blank fly-leaf contains a 5 x 32 mm hole and an inscription in a small early hand on the verso. Caecilius Cyprianus or St. Cyprian (200-258 c.e.) was Bishop of Carthage and important early Church father.
