Written as the seeds of socialism were beginning to take root in Britain and Labour MPs were first elected to parliament, The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists presents a detailed and critical view of social and economic life in pre war Britain. 12mo. 235pp. Black cloth boards with red titiling. Dust jacked is carefully preserved in plastic slip over archival paper, with some slight loss to top and bottom of spine. Page edges are tanned but binding is tight and square and contents are clean. Rare in this condition with a handsome dust-jacket design. Overall good/very good condition.

Folio Society edition of the autobiographical account of the 19th century Australian Convict James Tucker that was found much later and only published in full in 1952. Detailing the protagonist's arrest in England and subsequent life in exile. Complete with slipcase. Slipcase is split along one edge. But volume is clean and tight. Good overall.

Red faux-leather cloth with gilt decoration and decorated end-papers. Mild foxing to top edge. Small marks to free end-papers (caused by tape residue from a previous owner's protective jacket). Some indents to cover. But contents crisp and clean. Very good.
