Description:
Ann Arbor, MI: The Legacy Press, 2021. First Edition. 182pp. Octavo [23 cm] Illustrated wrappers. Fine. Signed by the author on the title page. Reams in the Desert is the first book to explore the complete story behind the West's pioneer attempt at paper production. The unlikely site was a desert valley in northern Utah. Paper had been made commercially in the United States for well over a century by the time that the first paper made west of the Mississippi River emerged from the vat. Complicated by isolation, the story of Utah's small and short-lived paper industry stands as one of the few success stories of Latter-day Saint-sponsored "home manufacture.".

Description:
Salt Lake City, UT: Earth First!, 1981. Bumper sticker [9 cm x 31 cm] / [3.5" x 12.25"] White stock printed in green ink. Unused. Fine. Earth First! was an environmental group founded by Dave Foreman, Ron Kezar, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, and Bart Koehler in 1980 as an alternative to more mainstream groups such as the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society. EF! describes itself as "pure, hard-line, radical," and advocates supplementing lobbying practices with more direct tactics such as "demonstrations" and "confrontations." In addition to supporting traditional conservation, EF! calls for the re-creation of wilderness through the construction of a national system of ecological preserves in which dams, roads, and other traces of human activity will be removed. "No Compromise in Defense of Mother Earth." Rare.

"Reflect a Moment: 'Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His Commandments: for this is the whole duty of man' - Ecc. 12:13. Note: From these inspired, applicable words of Solomon, as timely now as when originally given anciently, we learn that after all is done and said about life, we are all here for one, and one purpose only - to keep the commandments of God. How many hours do we devote in His cause annually?" Presumed rare.

Description:
New York: Pantheon, 1991. First Edition. 304pp. Octavo [21.5 cm] 1/2 green cloth over tan boards with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Near fine/Near Fine. In the spring of 1983 Terry Tempest Williams learned that her mother was dying of cancer. That same season, The Great Salt Lake began to rise to record heights, threatening the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the herons, owls, and snowy egrets that Williams, a poet and naturalist, had come to gauge her life by. One event was nature at its most random, the other a byproduct of rogue technology: Terry's mother, and Terry herself, had been exposed to the fallout of atomic bomb tests in the 1950s. As it interweaves these narratives of dying and accommodation, Refuge transforms tragedy into a document of renewal and spiritual grace, resulting in a work that has become a classic.

"This volume is not a biography of a certain man; but rather the story of the times in which a certain man lived and did his humble part. It is history with the bark on; no attempt has been made to edit out even the harsh things that went to make up the pioneer civilization of which he was not an unworthy part. I have not glossed over his or others' faults. The desire for truth is stronger than the desire to cover up evil. When known, names of individuals have been mentioned. Some were morally delinquent, yet even they had some redeeming traits. Their shortcomings are not paraded; they are mentioned, not for the purpose of bringing odium upon them of their descendants, but simply to keep the historical narrative… Read More
