Description:
First published in 1775 as a response to the American Congress' Articles of Confederation and their subsequent "Declaration… setting forth the causes and necessity of their taking up arms", both of which were published in the pamphlet.
This pamphlet, here in its eight edition, became widely distributed on both sides of the Atlantic. In it its anonymous author, which could have been either James MacPherson, Sir John Dalrymple, or the Lord George Germain, sought humane solutions in dealing with the American rebellion. His persuasive appeal to the British public for the preservation of order and the support of the Monarchy was in stark contrast to much of what else was being published, which generally was filled with contempt and anger at the ingratitude showed by the colonists toward their king.
Front board detached. Pages 97 through 112 (Gatherings O and P) detached. Paper somehwat foxed throughout. Volume is complete and is a very good candidate for more sympathetic binding.
