Recits de Belzebuth a son Petit-filsby G. I. GurdjieffJanus, Paris, 1956. First French edition, translated from the original manuscript. Red leather hardcover. 1177 pp. Red silk ribbon marker. Unmarked and in good condition. The original jacket and glassine cover is worn and chipped (please see photos) but still good. About the book: George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, (1877-1949) was a Greco-Armenian mystic and philosopher who founded an influential quasi-religious movement. Gurdjieff taught that people are not conscious of themselves and thus live their lives in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep", but that it is possible to awaken to a higher state of consciousness and serve our purpose as human beings. Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson is the first book of a trilogy in which Gurdjieff set forth his 'Fourth Way' spiritual mysticism.
