Description:
New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1899. First edition. THree-quarter maroon morocco with gilt lettering and design on the spine.. Very Good. The recollection of the men and women who were friends or enemies of Justin McCarthy, author, historian, and Anti-Parnellite Nationalist member of the Irish Parliment. He traveled in high literary and political circles, so the book includes his experiences with writers Walt Whitman, Henery Ward Beercher, George Eliot, Anthony Trollpe, John Stuart Mill, and Rudyard Kipling and with politicians Charles Steward Parnell, Napoleon, William Gladsone, and Lord Randdolph Churchill. Volume 2 is nearly perfect, but there are several chips on the spine and back of volume 1. Also, the morocco is missing from the back of volume 1. Both volumes have an elaborated bookplate from previousowner (Kenser) pasted onto the front endpaper

Description:
In the 1860's Frances Fuller Victor was asked to write a book that would dispel misconceptions about Oregon. The RIver of the West, which tells Oregon history from the point of view of "Mountain Man" Joe Meek was the result. published in 1870. Copies of the original having become extremely rare, Long's College Bookstore published this edition in 1950, apparently using the original plates for much of the book, although there is a new introduction by J. Cecil Alter. A rare treasure even as a reprint. The dust jacket Long's used is quite minimal. Its white paper gets dirty easily and there are no blurbs on the flaps.

Badly cocked and with some denting at corners of the cover; pages somewaht yellowed with age, but othersie in nice condition. Bright gold lettering on spine.
